Grant McCann has said that Rovers’ off-field work and family club ethic was one of the reasons he was desperate to join the club.

McCann was speaking after it was confirmed that Rovers had won Sky Bet League One Family Club of the Year for the third time. Rovers are one of only six clubs to have achieved the Family Excellence standard 11 years in a row.

McCann said: “That family focus was one of the big reasons why I was desperate to come for that interview in the summer. It's what I'm about, I'm a family man and the club do so much work behind the scenes to make things like that possible.

“Credit also has to go to the players. I've never been anywhere where the players want to be so involved with the community work. It's a credit to them for that. I remember going down to one of the EFL awards and Andy Butler and Matty Blair both won awards.

“It speaks volumes for what the club does, not just in football but in every aspect of life. I think they've been outstanding with that. We as a team want to try to follow in their footsteps.”

The winner of the overall EFL Family Club of the Year award will be announced on April 7. League One PFA Community Player of the Year, Matty Blair, will also learn if he has been successful in earning overall EFL Community player of the year on the same evening.

You can now secure your seat for the 2019/20 season by purchasing a Silver Membership at the early bird rate of just £299 until Monday April 1 from the Club Doncaster Box Office on 01302 762576, or via tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
