Grant McCann believes Friday night’s match against Barnsley will be a good advert for Sky Bet League One with both teams determined to take all three points in the clash at the Keepmoat Stadium.
McCann has said that everyone in the club is looking forward to the local derby and believes that the home crowd can help his team claim victory.
“The boys looked fresh this week, they look good and everyone really wants to play in this game. They’re all ready to go, derby games are always the ones that everyone looks for. Fans, players and everyone associated with the football club, we’re all looking forward to Friday,” said McCann.
“I think it’s going to be a good game. It’s going to be quite open, both teams will be there to win the game and it’s got the makings of a great football match, being live on TV, it’s going to be a really good example of League One football.”
“We want to start turning good performances into wins. It’ll be a big crowd, a good atmosphere and hopefully they can roar us onto victory.”
McCann feels his side were unfortunate not to claim a victory at Oakwell Stadium in the reverse fixture in November and believes it will be another good game on Friday.
“Looking back at our game at their place, I thought we played very well against them and we were probably unfortunate not to win that game but that’s gone and we have to perform again on Friday,” he said.
“Barnsley are very, very good. We’ve watched their games, we’ve seen them play and they deserve to be where they are because they’ve been one of the best teams in the league, their form shows it, and their league position shows it.
“We know what we’re up against and I’m sure Barnsley will be saying the same thing, I think they’ll know that they’re coming to a tough game. Barnsley haven’t lost in 17 but we love playing at the Keepmoat Stadium, the boys love playing here, we’ve got a good record here and we feel we can give anybody in the league a good game here.”
