McCann: Rovers ready for Dons test

Manager Grant McCann says Rovers will be ready for the tough test ahead when they travel to face AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The Dons currently sit bottom of the Sky Bet League One table ahead of the weekend’s game with Rovers, but despite the opposition sitting at the foot of the league, McCann believes his side will be in for a hard battle.

“Wally Downes has gone in there and they’ve had an upturn in the results they’ve had, they’ve looked more resolute and they gave us a really good game back in November, we started slowly then, and we can’t afford to do that again,” he said.

“It’ll be a difficult game down there, like it always is, but we have to focus on us and we have to make sure that we get back to winning ways, we’ve drawn two and lost one of the last three, so we need to try and get that cushion between us and seventh.

“We’re still not quite where we want to be in terms of a points total really, but we have two good games coming up to make that up, and that obviously starts on Saturday with what’s going to be a tough away game.”

Saturday’s trip to the capital is the first of three games in six days for McCann’s men, with an away trip to Blackpool on Tuesday night following the weekend’s trip to Kingsmeadow, and the manager says his side must take the opportunities ahead if they are to stay in the top six.

“There is not one team in this league that scares us, we have to make sure we take each game as it comes and play the way we want to play, and this is a big opportunity for us to get back to winning ways,” he said.

“We want to cement our place and really confirm our place in the top six, we want to really get at those teams that are above us and chase them down, we think we’re just as good as any of those teams that are in the top six and rightly so.

“If I said at the beginning of the season that we’d be sitting in sixth place with 12 games to go, a lot of people would have laughed at us, we feel as if we’re in a good position, but we feel like we can be in a much better one, and we have to make sure we do just that.”
