Rowe ready to build on Blackpool draw

Tommy Rowe felt Rovers were good value for their point after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers’ point saw them open up the smallest of gaps to seventh-placed Peterborough United, whilst the Seasiders remained three points behind the play-off places, and Rowe believes the side did well to grind out a point in difficult conditions.

“It’s a good point for us, all things considered, the conditions were up against us, we came here wanting three points, but with them right behind us and other results heading our way, we can come away happy with the point,” he said.

“I think it shows how high our standards are that after a couple of disappointing results recently, we’ve come here and put in a very good performance, we showed a lot of character as a squad to react well to going behind.

“We knew we were going to be in for a tough game coming in to this one, they’ve got some big players, especially up top who can be a handful, but we needed to use our energy and that was the main point and we caused some real problems for them.”

Rowe returned to the starting line-up at Bloomfield Road, taking the captain’s armband and leading from the front in scoring a stunning equaliser, a strike which was his fourth on his last three visits to Blackpool, but for the skipper, putting on a good performance was the main thing.

“It’s just been one of those places for me really, a few of the lads had picked up on it before the game and said I’d score but I’d put that to the back of my mind, all that was important for me was making sure we put in a good performance,” he said.

“As a team we got that and we stuck together in the end to grind out the point, and on another day, it probably would’ve been three, now it’s important that we focus our attention on the next game, we need to recover and rest quickly for the big one on Friday.

“It was nice to reward the fans with the goal after they’d come across, the boys give me a bit of stick for not celebrating my goals at times too, so I had to give them a bit, but it’s great to see them react to it and the goal was the least we deserved really.”
