Ben Whiteman has said he is looking forward to facing Blackpool in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night when the sides meet at a busy Bloomfield Road.

Rovers are in sixth place just three points ahead of eighth-placed Blackpool and with Blackpool buoyed by the recent change in ownership, Whiteman admits it will be a difficult place to go.

“It’s going to be a tough game and they’ve got the added bonus of them having full stadium but we’re still looking to go there and take the three points,” he said.

“It’s obviously good for Blackpool that the fans are back and if you ask any footballer they’ll tell you it’s always better to play in front of a full stadium whether you’re  home or away.

“I’m sure their fans will make a bit of difference to them so we’re going to have to go there, focus on our own game and implement that. It’s going to be interesting because they’re trying to catch us and we’re trying to break away from them – hopefully, we’ll come out on top.”

Despite going four games without a win, Rovers remain in sixth place with teams around them also failing to pick-up crucial points which means the side’s destiny is still in their own hands.

“We’re in the driving seat, we’re still in the play-off places but we want to get that gap back that we had,” Whiteman added.

“There have been decisions that haven’t gone our way but we have to look at ourselves, we haven’t been good enough for the last four games. We need to focus on Blackpool, and look to get a positive result.

“We’ve shown character and experience in the past to turn a bad run into a good one, we’re a good team we just need to get back to what we were doing. We’ve still got a game in hand, we’re still in the top six, we just need to keep pushing forward and develop some momentum to open up a bit of a gap over the chasing pack.”
