Coppinger hails Rovers fans as he signs new deal

6 May 2019

James Coppinger has hailed the fans’ unwavering support as he signs a new deal at the club.

The 38-year-old has described the decision put pen to paper on a one-year deal as a no brainer.

“I’m delighted to get the deal sorted. Now, I can focus on going into the play-offs and finishing the season strongly,” he said.

“It’s an easy decision staying for another year. I’ve been here fifteen years and I’ve had such a good time – I’m so pleased with the way my football has gone here with promotions and the cup final. I think there’s more to come, not just from me personally, but from Doncaster and from this team.

“For me, the fans are one of the biggest factors. Managers change, chairmen change, even the owners change but the fans stay the same and throughout my fifteen years they’ve stuck by me through good and bad. The support that they’ve shown throughout the last few seasons as I’m getting older is massive for me because it justifies why I’m going out every day, training the way I train and playing the way I do. I’ll be eternally grateful for their support.”

Rovers will face Charlton Athletic at home in the first leg of the Sky Bet League One semi-final on May 12. It's your last chance to back the boys at home this season. Click here for ticket information.
