Herbie Kane says he will return to Liverpool a more mature person after his loan spell with Rovers came to an end.

The influential midfielder was key to Grant McCann’s side reaching the play-offs in his first season in the EFL, and says he will look back on his time at the Keepmoat Stadium with fond memories.

He said: “I’ve loved every minute and will always remember my time here, wherever I am next season hopefully Rovers can go on and get promotion from this division.

“The fans have been excellent and bought into my style of play which I’m grateful for, they deserve some success for the way they’ve supported us.

“I’ve matured as a person as well as a player while I’ve been here, the players around me have helped me develop on and off the pitch.”

After arriving during the week before the season got underway, Kane says he was pleased with how the squad kicked on throughout the campaign.

He added: “I’m proud of the team this season, a lot of people tipped us to go down but we surprised everyone and did really well.

“It shows what type of lads we’ve got in the dressing room, it’s been great to be a part of and I’ve enjoyed it.

“Getting into the play-offs was a great experience, it was a shame we couldn’t go further but I won’t forget it.”
