Grant McCann says he is setting up his team to win in the opening Sky Bet League One play-off game against Charlton.

Rovers will face-off with Charlton for the fourth time this season as they welcome them to the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday for a 12.15 kick-off.

He said: “The previous games against Charlton mean nothing, we can look back at them and they were far better than us in the first game but in the cup game we deserved the win. The game here was even, but all three of those games mean absolutely nothing - just like the 46 games that got us here.

“Neither side will want to sit back – like every game this season we’re going out to win it whether we're home or away and my players know no different so it’s going to be a good game.

“When you get into the play-offs everything changes. Momentums a nice thing but it doesn’t mean anything because you have to win over two games firstly at home and it’s a team that is the best prepared and one who is willing to go that extra yard and play the way we want to play.”

The Rovers manager wants the club to utilise their underdog status as they head into the two-legged play-off game.

He added: “The three times I’ve been in the play-offs I’ve been with teams who weren’t fancied, and we got promoted so the underdog tag suits me. All through my career I’ve been written-off, since I was a boy my PE teacher told me I wouldn’t make it as a footballer.

“We’ve got a strong group mentality. We know what we’re up against; a strong team and a very good manager with some very good players and a team that can hurt us if we’re not right.

“Charlton are a good team with good individuals that everyone knows about – definitely in the forward area of the pitch. They’ve shown how consistent they can be throughout the season and they’re strong defensively but can score a lot of goals so we’re going to have to be at our best to win.”

This is your last chance to get behind the boys at home as we take on Chartlon Athletic in the first leg of the Sky Bet League One semi-final. Tickets are now on general sale and can be purchased from the Club Doncaster Box Office or online by visiting: tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
