Rovers ground staff were given the honour of being highly commended at the EFL Grounds Team of the Season Awards 2019.
The EFL have hosted their annual Grounds Team of the Season Awards which celebrates the hard-work and efforts of the staff who work on keeping the playing surfaces in pristine condition in the wake of the blistering sunshine, heavy rain and frosts which occur throughout the football season.
Rovers were shortlisted for the top prize alongside Sunderland and Wycombe Wanderers but lost out to eventual winners Bristol Rovers.
The overall winner is determined using marks from referees and away managers for each match with the top-ranked playing surfaces receiving a detailed pitch inspection and review conducted by Dr Stephen Baker, head of sports surface technology at the Sports Turf Research Institute.
Head of stadium operations Marie Hepburn said: “I’m delighted the team have been highly commended by the Playing Surface Committee for the 2018-19 season. To have been highlighted as one of the top pitches in League One is great testament to the hard work that goes in to maintaining the pitch by the grounds team.
“A significant pitch renovation took place in advance of the season, with thanks to support from the Club Doncaster board, and we have reaped the rewards this season with both this award and in supporting the team to reach the League One play-offs.
“We are already looking ahead to the schedule of work for the 2019/20 season and will continue to commit to improving and providing the best playing surface possible at the stadium.”
