Horton extends stay as part of long-term planning

13 November 2019

Rovers have taken up a contract option on Branden Horton which will keep the young defender at the club until the summer of 2021.

The 19-year-old, who came through the ranks at Rovers and has spent time on loan at Gainsborough Trinity this season, has agreed a one-year deal as manager Darren Moore continues his long-term planning.

Moore said: “He has been really good since I’ve come in, he has not looked out of place when he has come in and trained with the first team in terms of speed and power as well as being comfortable on the ball. He has got a bit of tenacity about him, which I like.

“He is a good size and there is a lot more to come from him. We’ve got him out on loan and over the past couple of months we’ve seen a change in him from playing at the level he has been doing which has added physicality to his ability, and we’ve got a lovely player on our hands.”

The new contract for Horton follows news of the club taking up an option on young midfielder Lirak Hasani, whose stay at the club has been extended until the summer of 2022.
