Rieves Boocock’s goal helped Rovers’ Development side secure a point against Scunthorpe United reserves in Central League North.

Boocock fired Rovers ahead, but Gary McSheffrey’s side were denied by victory by Lewis Butroid’s close range header 13 minutes from time at Cantley Park.

Rovers started the better of the two sides and took the lead after eight minutes, with Harrison Myring carrying the ball from the halfway line before his cutback found Boocock who finished well beyond Adam Kelsey.

Home goalkeeper Kian Johnson was called into action for the first time when he kept out John McAtee’s effort with his feet to turn the ball behind for a corner.

The visitors should have been level eight minutes before the break whenJohnson brought down Reon Potts in the area, before redeeming himself making a low save to his right to deny the No.9’s spot-kick.

Rovers almost punished that miss by extending their lead, as captain Shane Blaney hit a post with a close-range effort from a free-kick.

The opening exchanges of the second-half brought about little in the way of goalscoring opportunities, until McAtee struck the outside of Johnson’s near post with a right-footed drive from just outside the area.

Elliott Walker almost got Rovers’ second goal with a quarter of an hour remaining, as he cut inside from the right and forced a good save from Kelsey after the ball had travelled through several bodies.

The Iron made the most of that let off and secured themselves a point as the game headed towards the latter stages. Tom Pugh’s deflected ball into the box was met by Butroid who powered his header beyond Johnson and into the net to secure a share of the spoils.
