Paul Stancliffe was left disheartened as he watched his side exit the FA Youth Cup to Mansfield Town.

Despite Rovers scoring three goals, his side came out on the losing end of what was a dramatic game of football at the One Call Stadium.

He said: “We are obviously disappointed right now because we didn’t play well enough. We allowed them to dominate us and we did not play like we have shown that we can.

“It was exactly the same as the two games we’ve already played against Mansfield earlier in the season - if you give them a chance, they are going to be all over you and we weren’t good enough to stand up to them today.

“You can break the goals down to see how we have conceded and they haven’t actually created much, we have just given them four goals.”

The cup competition comes in the middle of a busy week for the youth team who will be back in action on Saturday afternoon.

Stancliffe added: “The lads will have Wednesday off and we are back in Thursday preparing for Lincoln with fresh minds.

“Obviously they are all disappointed in the dressing room we have had to explain to them to put that behind them and explain why and where they thought they didn’t win it today.

“We will go through it again when everyone’s emotions have levelled off a bit more.”
