Whiteman voted MOTM against Southend

23 October 2019

Ben Whiteman has been named Rovers' man of the match by fans on Twitter for his excellent performance against Southend United.

It was one of the closest votes of the season with Whiteman picking up 35% of the vote while Kwame Thomas bagged 33%.

Ben Sheaf - whose first-time volley from James Coppinger's cross - ensured his first Rovers goal was scored in impressive style came third in the poll.

Any number of players could have been shortlisted - Kieran Sadlier bagged his sixth goal of the season, Jon Taylor frustrated the Shrimpers throughout, and Madger Gomes' pass for Alfie May's goal was almost worthy of the MOTM award in itself.

However, it was the skipper's composed display in the centre of the park - including an impressive goal of his own - which earned him the fans MOTM.
