James Coppinger has been impressed with the way teammate Ben Whiteman has taken being named as Rovers’ captain in his stride.
The No.8 was handed the role in the summer with Coppinger himself being named as club captain for the 2019/20 campaign.
He said: “He’s been unbelievable, I would say he is definitely one of the best I’ve played with in terms of what he offers at such a young age both on and off the pitch.
“He showed last season that he is capable of standing up and taking responsibility and he’s carried that on as captain.
“He leads by example every day with the way he trains and looks after himself and that is why it was so important that we kept him in the summer.”
With just one defeat so far in Sky Bet League One this season, Coppinger feels the squad have done well to put themselves in a strong position.
He added: “Results and performances have been good and as consistent as I’ve seen it in a long time which is a credit to the manager.
“It’s not easy when you lose the amount of players we did in the summer, but the transition has been a seamless one.”
