Madger Gomes said Tuesday’s Leasing.com Trophy match against Manchester United U21s gave him an opportunity to show Darren Moore what he was capable of.

Having found regular game time hard to come by in recent weeks, Gomes is hoping he did enough to put himself into contention for a starting spot in the upcoming games.

He added: “I’ve been here for a few months now and I’ve really enjoyed it, the lads have done well and I want to help with that.

“I try to show the manager in training every day that I can do well, and hopefully he can see the effort I’m putting in.

“I feel I’m improving the more understanding I get of the team and the league itself, I’m getting stronger and that is good for me.”

Mason Greenwood’s injury-time goal saw Darren Moore’s side fall to defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium, and Gomes says missed chances cost them.

He said: “We’re disappointed not to get the win, we had the chances throughout the game but couldn’t turn that into goals.

“The first 20 minutes we were very good and deserved to go in front, but once we didn’t then it let them grow into it.

“It was a chance for some of the lads that haven’t been involved as much to show the manager what we can do if called upon.”
