Gary McSheffrey says he wants more consistency from the Rovers Development side after they lost 3-2 at Rotherham United.

Goals from Max Watters and Harrison Myring were unable to prevent a defeat in Central League North, and McSheffrey was disappointed with the goals conceded.

He said: “We had a poor 20 minutes really after our first goal when we never really laid a glove on them, and let them play which resulted in a couple of goals for them.

“The first one is a good strike by MacDonald but we need to be quicker out to him to stop him from getting a clear shot on goal.

“Their winner is a poor goal from our point of view because we knew the lad would make that type of run and nobody tracked that.”

With youngsters Kian Johnson and Will McGowan both making an impression in the side, McSheffrey was pleased with the way they stepped up.

He added: “Kian did well and made some good saves, he’s done well for us so far this season and couldn’t do much about the goals.

"Will grew into the game and made some good passes, he took on board the advice at half-time and really improved after that.

“Consistency is key and we’ve got some good potential here, if they can start showing it on a regular basis then they will have a chance.”
