Darren Moore wants some of his younger players to make their mark in the Leasing.Com Trophy.
Rovers travel to take on Rotherham United in the group stage of the competition on Tuesday night, and the manager enjoys the concept of it.
He said: “We’ve got a good development squad and it is time for those players now to show why they should be close to the first-team.
“These games give them a chance to develop, so we will assess the squad and pick a team that can go there and win the game.
“It’s a great competition for clubs at our level and give ourselves an opportunity of progressing far and playing at Wembley.”
A win at the AESSAL New York Stadium would see Rovers progress with a game to spare, and Moore says that is an added incentive for his squad.
He added: “Rotherham got a good result at the weekend and that will have done them a favour in terms of their confidence.
“To get the win and get through with one game left would be good for us because it takes the pressure off a little bit.”
