On October 3 1879, Rovers played their first football match. A group of LNER workers, led by Albert Jenkins drew 0-0 in a friendly played at Rawmarsh.
If you had told that group of men that 140 years later their football team would be thriving in the professional leagues and playing in front of thousands of supporters every week, would they have believed you?
Rovers has had a rich and varied history ranging from non-league to the second tier and has had lots of successes and difficulties along the way. As part of the celebrations of our 140th year, we asked supporters to tell us about their first memories of watching Rovers – some were more recent than others!
Those who weren’t able to remember back to their first game, retold their best stories or favourite memories instead.
What’s your first memory of watching Rovers?
