Rovers’ Development side were beaten 3-2 at South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United in Central League North.

The home side made the better start and almost went in front with less than two minutes on the clock, as Carlton Morris was denied by a great block from Shane Blaney.

It was Rovers who went in front after 12 minutes, as Max Watters raced through on goal before finishing calmly beyond Laurence Bilboe.

The lead lasted just seven minutes though as a corner was headed out to the edge of the area where experienced midfielder Shaun MacDonald volley the ball through a number of bodies and into the net.

The Millers went in front midway through the first-half, as winger Trevor Clarke sneaked in at the back post to loop a header over a helpless Kian Johnson.

Rovers had to show a response after going in at the break a goal down, and trialist Harrison Myring provided it as he got on the end of Elliott Walker’s ball over the top and volleyed past Bilboe.

The game looked to be heading for a draw before substitute Jacob Gratton finished well from inside the area late on to give the Millers the win.
