Rovers U23s side got their Central League Cup campaign off to a winning start with a 4-2 victory over Rotherham United reserves at Cantley Park.

The starting XI featured the likes of Joe Wright, Madger Gomes and Alex Kiwomya, with the latter netting the third Rovers goal of the afternoon.

The home side got off to the better start and had the lead after a quarter of an hour, after some good football lead to a smart finish from a trialist before Gomes doubled the lead four minutes later.

Rotherham pulled a goal back through winger Julian Lamy, before Kiwomya cut inside from the right and fired beyond Laurence Bilboe to restore the two-goal lead going into half-time.

The opening exchanges of the second-half proved to be close before Jacques Etia headed home from a corner to give the Millers hope.

That was as good as it got for the visitors though as Myron Gibbons raced onto a through ball late on and scored from a tight angle to seal the win for Rovers.

Rovers' first-team return to the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend to take on Portsmouth in Sky Bet League One. Tickets are available now from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
