James: It's a tough one to take

18 September 2019

Reece James says Tuesday’s defeat to Blackpool was tough to take but has confidence that the team will bounce back in time for Saturday’s visit from Peterborough.

Blackpool’s Armaud Gnanduillet landed a sucker punch heading in from close range in the final minute of injury time.

“It’s a tough one to take. It’s disappointing especially conceding so late on but we’ll take it on the chin, move on and be ready for Saturday,” said James.

“You saw late on we were pushing on and getting as many bodies forward as possible but unfortunately we got caught out a bit but we’ve just got to move on and prepare for the next game.

“We’ll focus on what we’ve already done this season – we’ve played some unbelievable stuff this season and we can’t forget that. On Tuesday night, we didn’t show how good we can be but we’ll put it right Saturday. We’ve got to keep pressing on and doing as well as we can.”

James joined Rovers in the summer after a stop-start season at Sunderland and the left-back says he is enjoying life in South Yorkshire.

“My start at Rovers has been ok but there’s always opportunity to improve both in attack and defensive. I didn’t think Tuesday was one of my better games but that happens in football. I’ll just focus on being better individually and for the team,” he said.

“I found it a little bit tough at the start of last season, I had an injury problem, then I got a run of games, but then I got another injury, these things happen in football so you just have to be mentally and physically prepared.

“I already feel I’ve been better this season. The guys look after me at the training ground and as long as I stay fit, I’ll do the best I can for the season.”
