Moore: Rovers must learn from defeat

18 September 2019

Darren Moore says his side will pick themselves up quickly following their first defeat of the season at home to Blackpool.

Rovers conceded at the death being hit on the break by the Seasiders while they were pushing for a late winner of their own and Moore said the manner of the defeat was disappointing.

“We were disappointed to concede with almost the last kick of the game, but I’m more disappointed because it came from our possession and we picked the wrong option,” Moore said.

“We need to pick the right options – the team have tasted a lot of success in recent weeks, they’ve come from behind late on and so they’ve got a willingness to go and win the game. In the end, it meant we’d left it a little bit too open and they’ve gone and got the goal. That’s a big learning curve for me and the team.

“So, in a game I felt we were largely in control of, we ended up conceding the three points. We’ll look back on it, we’ll learn from it, and should that moment arise again, we’ll do it differently. It was the right thing to try and win the game and against Rotherham we did that – it’s just about learning from it.”

Rovers will have to pick themselves quickly as they prepare for the visit of Peterborough United on Saturday.

“We’ve had a good, solid start to season but we’ll learn from Tuesday and we’ll go again,” said Moore.

“We’re disappointed but this game’s gone. We don’t get much chance to sit on it because by the time you get up in the morning, you’ve got to prepare for another tough game on Saturday.”
