Stancliffe: U18s must get back to winning ways

Paul Stancliffe says his side rediscover their form in front of goal after they failed to score against Mansfield Town in a 1-0 defeat.

Jamie Chisholm’s second-half header proved to be the difference between Rovers and the Stags on Saturday.

He said: “We just did not work hard enough today and that is why we lost. It was disappointing to have to bring Nathan Dimou off at half-time because of his injury. In my opinion, he played really well in the first-half. Ben Blythe stepped up to the mantle really well and Kian Johnson did well on his return.

“We started off okay with a good shape but we just didn’t work hard enough up front to get into positions to be at the end of things.

“It was quite different to how we performed last week. If you are not scoring goals, you are not going to win games.”

The U18s are back on the road this weekend making the trip to Scunthorpe as they look to bounce back.

He added: “We need to be suitably prepared as we head to Scunthorpe next week. It is a challenge to go away from Cantley Park after a run of six games at home. The facilities here are fantastic and the pitch is always in excellent condition.

“Results are mightily important – I want to win games and the lads want to win games. We believe strongly in our ability.”
