Luke Beniston named club's virtual manager

16 April 2020

Supporter Luke Beniston will get to follow in the footsteps of Darren Moore after being appointed as the club’s first ever virtual manager.

Luke will represent Rovers in the EFL Football Manager Cup, where EFL clubs will take on each other in a virtual knockout competition.

Fans who wished to take control of Rovers were asked to send in a CV and covering letter, with the club selecting according to the same criteria applied when appointing a first-team manager in real life.

Rovers chief executive Gavin Baldwin said: "Thank you to everyone who applied to manage Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Football Manager Cup, I was really impressed with the quality of CVs.

"I’m pleased to say that Luke will be representing Rovers in the competition. His CV showed all the qualities we want as a manager, plus an impressive track record of trophy wins including a famous 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League final."

Details of the competition, being run by Sports Interactive, will be confirmed in due course.
