6 April 2020

Billy Langham born April 6, 1876

Nottingham-born winger or inside forward Billy already had Football League experience with Notts County and Leicester Fosse when he joined Rovers in August 1901.

He took part in Rovers’ first Football League match, a 3-3 draw against Burslem Port Vale in September that year, and contributed nine goals that season, finishing second-top scorer.

He was top scorer with eight goals in 1902-03 but left Rovers after they dropped out of the League. His overall League record for Rovers was 17 goals in 62 games. He went on to play for Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln City and had a spell back at Rovers in the Midland League in 1906-07, when he scored four goals in one game against Grantham Avenue. He died in 1954, aged 76.
