Centre-back Dean started his career with his local team, Leeds United, and went on to play over 350 Football League games for Rochdale, Carlisle United and Lincoln City.

In July 1999, aged 30, he joined Rovers who were then in their second season in the Football Conference. He made his debut in August 1999 in a 3-2 home win over Forest Green Rovers and was a regular throughout the season.

He was a member of the team that won the Conference League Cup for the second year in succession, Rovers beating Kingstonian 2-0 in the final.

During the following season, he moved on to Northwich Victoria and later played for Cambridge United. Capped twice by St. Kitts & Nevis, he now runs his own football academy near Lincoln. His record for Rovers was 56 appearances and four goals.
