Steve Gaughan born April 14, 1970

Locally born winger Steve first came to prominence as a member of the Rovers' youth team which reached the final of the 1987-88 FA Youth Cup, eventually losing to Arsenal.

He made his Football League debut earlier that season, coming on as a substitute against Notts County in March 1988.

The following season he made 34 League appearances and in 1989-90 he was part of the team that reached the Northern Area Final of the Football League Trophy.

His overall record for Rovers was 82 senior appearances and three goals. In July 1990 First Division Sunderland signed him and although he never played in their first team, he went on to make over 300 League appearances for Darlington, Chesterfield and Halifax Town.
