Rovers will face Bradford City, Oldham Athletic, and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy group stages.
The competition’s format will remain unchanged with the first round of matches due to take place on September 8 and 9. The final is due to be held at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of March 14 2021.
Rovers reached the second round of the competition last season where a young side were knocked out by Leicester City U23s.
