Anderson: It was emotional to be honest

25 December 2020

Tom Anderson said delivering hampers to isolated supporters was a rewarding experience for him and the whole squad.

The team were supporting Club Doncaster Foundation’s tackling loneliness project and took 80 hampers (funded by Platinum Plus Partner LNER) to the most isolated and vulnerable people in Doncaster just in time for Christmas.

“Delivering the hampers was brilliant,” Anderson said.

“Me and Jon Taylor really enjoyed doing it to be honest. It means a lot to people - especially with everything going on at the minute - and I think it’s important that we all stick together because if we do, we can get through it.

“Sometimes just to have someone to talk to or be there, that’s a massive help.”

While it was just a small gesture of a selection of Christmas goodies and a ten minute chat with those who have been isolated, Anderson admitted it was an afternoon that pulled at the heart strings.

“It was very emotional to be honest,” he added.

“Just seeing how happy people were, and the smile on their face – it does make you emotional because you think, I’m just me Tom Anderson nothing special, but when we went over there he was so happy to see us.”

“It gives us, as players, a lift as well and I think it just reiterated to us that yeah, we are footballers, but we can help people off the pitch as well.”
