Andy Butler was pleased to play his part for Rovers in the 2-0 win over Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One.
The central defender made his first league start of the campaign and earned his side a clean sheet at Sixfields.
He said: “The manager came to me on Friday and asked me if I fancied a piece of the action and of course I wanted to play.
“I’ve had to be patient and keep working hard but I felt like I took my chance and gave everything for the team.
“I just tried to be myself on the pitch, it’s my first League One game since the play-off semi-final so it was a good one to get involved in.”
With more than 1,000 home fans in the stadium watching the game, Butler says he enjoyed having them add to the atmosphere.
He added: “It was great to have a crowd in the stadium, even if they’re booing you it’s a part of football we’ve been missing for a long time.
“The game isn’t the same without fans, it adds to the occasion and gives you more of an edge when you’re out on the field.”
