Moore: a deserved win

13 December 2020

Darren Moore felt Rovers’ win over Gillingham was well deserved as Reece James and Brad Halliday were both on target.

The Rovers boss was happy to make it back-to-back wins against an in-form Gillingham side and was impressed with his how his team responded to Kyle Dempsey’s equaliser.

He said: “It was a good, accomplished performance from ourselves against some tough opposition. I thought for the most of it we were in control. I felt we could’ve maybe got more goals with some of the chances we had today, but overall it was a good performance.

“The response to from the players after the equaliser was excellent. With the changes they made I knew they threw caution to the wind, but on the flip side I knew if we could break their lines that we’d get chances.

“They’ll learn a lot from the Gillingham game through the mindset they had to use and the type of game that it was. Gillingham are always difficult to play and if you’re going to beat them you have to earn it.”

Halliday got his first goal in Rovers colours, while Reece James got his third of the season, showing that Rovers have goals in all positions on the pitch.

He added: “Reece and Brad have scored today with two good finishes in advanced areas of the pitch for them.

“Reece’s goal was a lovely tidy finish and obviously Brad did what we asked of him to put pressure on the box.

“To score in 13 consecutive league games is really good. As I said the team is ever improving and we have just got to keep working and improving. If we keep our focus and move on to the next game because they’re coming thick and fast.”
