Accrington’s recent form

Stanley have been beaten just once in their past six league games, stretching back to a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at the end of November.

They started December with a 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury, before beating MK Dons at the Wham Stadium. They fell to a 4-3 defeat at Wigan Athletic, despite almost completing a brilliant comeback at the DW Stadium. They responded well to that setback though and won 2-0 at Gillingham, before a goalless draw against Blackpool last time out.

The man in charge

John Coleman returned for a second spell with Accrington in 2014 and helped them win promotion to Sky Bet League One in the 2017/18 campaign. Since returning, Coleman has taken charge of 325 matches, winning 138, drawing 80 and losing 107, giving him an overall win percentage of 42.5%.

Ones to watch

Seamus Conneely

The Irish midfielder joined Stanley in 2015 from Sligo Rovers, where he had previously worked with John Coleman. He was handed the captain’s armband in his first season at the club and has worn it ever since. He is equally as comfortable in defence or midfield, adding good versatility when the resources are stretched at the Wham Stadium.

Sean McConville

The creative midfielder re-joined Stanley in the summer of 2015 after spells with Stockport and Rochdale. McConville has regularly provided goals and assists during his time at the club. During the 2018/19 campaign, he bagged 15 goals and provided seven assists.

Dion Charles

The powerful striker joined Stanley from non-league outfit Southport in the summer of 2019. Having began his career with Blackpool, Charles has also spent time with AFC Fylde and Fleetwood Town earlier on in his career.

So far this season, the Northern Ireland U21 international has scored seven times in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Last time out

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium when they last met in December 2019. Jon Taylor had given Rovers a second-half lead, before substitute Offrande Zanzala secured a point for Stanley.
