Rovers U9s saw off competition from Sheffield United, Rotherham United, Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, Barrow, Doncaster Rovers Development, and Centre of Football Excellence to be crowned Harrogate tournament champions.

The competition gave the Rovers youngsters an opportunity to test themselves against a variety of teams from development centres to Category 2 Academies. The boys were able to put into practice everything they have learned since joining the club at the start of the season, and their progression has been shown as they came home with the trophy.

Head of Foundation Phase at Rovers Academy Michael Pedley said:The boys faced difficult tests against a variety of opposition in a mixed age group format with each game providing the players with an opportunity to ‘work out’ how to overcome different playing styles.

“I thought they showed good ability at times and took their chances well, especially in tight games. The most pleasing part of the tournament for me was how hard they worked for each other.

“Thanks also to the parents for the support and well done boys!”
