Blair ready for Sunderland challenge

24 January 2020

Matty Blair says challenges in Sky Bet League One don’t come much bigger than a televised away trip to Sunderland on a Friday night, but he feels Rovers have enough to take all three points.

It has been less than a month since the two sides met in the league but both teams have been on good runs since the encounter.

“Sunderland on a Friday night is one of the biggest challenges in the league but our performances have been good up to now and we know that if we put a good performance in, we should give them a good go,” said Blair.

“You should prepare for every game in exactly the same way regardless of the stadium, regardless of the numbers of fans.

“If anything, the atmosphere should drive you on more.  You should want to play in these games and stick your chest out.

Blair made a cameo appearance in Rovers last away match – a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers – as he continues his return from injury but he says he’s ready to do his bit for the team.

“I’m feeling better. I had the operation, have done the rehab and now I feel all good and ready to go again,” he added.

“I’ll be pushing every day in training. For full match fitness, I still need a few more minutes. Whether that’s from the bench or starting, I’ll always give it everything I’ve got.

“We as a group of lads will always give everything we’ve got for the shirt.”
