Ennis looking for more goals

9 January 2020

Niall Ennis says he is looking to add more goals to his tally as he prepares for Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers.

Ennis returned to scoring ways with the opener in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town, and the man on loan from Wolves is looking to keep his shooting boots firmly on in Sky Bet League One.

“I’m here to score goals and I haven’t been happy with my ratio, I want to get a run going and hopefully it can start now, it doesn’t matter where it is, scoring goals is a great feeling and it’s good to do it in a professional game,” he said.

“Scoring goals is my job and I enjoy doing it, I just have to keep doing what I’m doing, the team has picked up their results and it’s about me contributing by adding some goals and assists along the way.

“We want to keep this run going and hopefully we can do that, I want to try and be a big influence on the team, obviously I want to score, but if I’m setting up a goal too then that can be a help, but I want to get more goals on the board.”

Injury has seen game time limited for Ennis over recent weeks, but after four consecutive starts in the league, the forward says it is good to be back involved and learning more about the professional game.

“I’m feeling a lot better, it’s good to be back playing, and it’s really enjoyable, it’s a long season and I had to make sure that when I came back I felt right, there’s a lot of different games that I will face,” he added.

“It’s all about learning and how I figure out where to position myself, whether that’s playing against a two or a three in the middle of defence, I just want to do my best in order to get the beating of the opposition.

“It’s only been half a season that I’ve been here but I feel like I’ve learnt a lot already, there’s things I’ve done which I’ve never done before, I just can’t wait to keep improving, it’s just about being confident in my ability and helping the team further.”
