Moore hoping to build on New Year's Day victory

6 January 2020

Darren Moore is hoping to build on his side’s victory over Oxford United on New Year’s Day when Rovers welcome Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

The Shrews are one place ahead of Rovers in the league but have played one more match.

“Shrewsbury have had a good solid start to the season, they’re a durable team, and they seem to be getting stronger and stronger,” said Moore.

“They stay in the game until the end and are very difficult opponents who are defensively strong. They’re athletic but given the chance they get the ball down and play.

“I think Sam Ricketts is doing a great job – he seems to have been implementing his style of play. We look forward to the challenge that they will provide.”

Ricketts’ side will come into Tuesday’s game full of confidence after taking Championship side Bristol City to a replay on Saturday.

“They had a great result at Bristol City on the weekend. To go there and acquit themselves the way they did was good, I’m sure Sam will feel that they could have come away with the win,” he added.

“That shows the strength of the opponents that will be coming into town on Tuesday night.”
