Moore: more to come from Rovers

29 January 2020

Darren Moore felt his side got goals at the right times as they beat Southend United 3-1 at home in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night.

Rovers completed the double over the Shrimpers after October’s 7-1 victory at Roots Hall, but Moore felt the visitors to the Keepmoat Stadium put up a fight and made it difficult in stages.

“We’re pleased with the three points, we knew Southend were going to be resolute opponents, they worked hard, they had a lot more organisation to them, they stayed disciplined and they made it very hard for us at times,” he said.

“Their work rate and endeavor was excellent at times, they worked hard to really try to stop and contain us, but as I said I’m pleased we’ve got the win, we got the goals at the right times, but we’re still driving for better performances.

“Sometimes you have those games where you know that the standards can be much higher, but the pleasing thing for me is that we’ve been below par but we’ve still managed to get the three points we wanted.”

Goals from Niall Ennis and Kieran Sadlier saw Rovers pick up their fourth win in six games, and Moore was pleased to see Ennis on the scoresheet, as well as managing to get new signing Devante Cole on for a late appearance, and hopes those two will drive each other on.

“I was pleased for Niall because he puts in a lot of hard work for the team, and like all strikers when they do that work, they want to back that up with a goal, and it was a great turn and finish from him to do so,” he added.

“It was a good clean strike and a lovely finish from him, he deserves that goal for me, he’s a big player for this team and a really important player, so I was pleased to see him get on the scoresheet, long may his form continue.

“Devante’s come on as well and had a couple of chances late in the game, he’ll give us another dimension and we’re pleased to have him on board, I was pleased to see the reaction from the fans and they saw a little glimpse of what he’s about.”
