Rovers U18s 2019/20 skipper Ben Blythe has signed his first professional deal at Rovers.
Composed left-footed centre-back Blythe led the U18s to a ten-point lead at the top of the Youth Alliance League with his calm and assured performances. His attitude off the field as well as his performances on it won him the plaudits of U18s coach Paul Stancliffe.
Blythe’s new deal sees him follow in the footsteps of Branden Horton, AJ Greaves and Lirak Hasani and manager Darren Moore is delighted to have another talented youngster signed up.
“I’m so pleased for Ben. He’s a young player and I’ve got a lot of faith him," said Moore.
“He still needs to learn a lot but next season, he’ll step out of youth team football and he’ll start training with the first-team squad."
“Just training with the first-team will bring his game on leaps and bounds because he’s got the attitude and the temperament for it. It will improve his game because the speed, the power that the first team train at can only be good for the younger players.
“He’s got a bright future ahead of him. We feel we’ve got a really, really good young player and we’ll be developing him.”
