2 July 2020

Barry Swallow born July 2, 1942

The son of Ernie, a member of Rovers 1946-47 Division Three (North) title-winning side, Arksey-born Barry signed professionally for Rovers in July 1959.

He made his debut in October 1960 and scored in his second game, a FA Cup tie at Chesterfield that finished 3-3. A defender with an eye for goal, Barry spent two seasons in Rovers’ first team before moving to Crewe Alexandra in August 1962.

He had spells at Barnsley and Bradford City and in October 1969 he signed for York City. There he enjoyed the best spell of his career, helping the Minstermen gain promotion from the Fourth Division to the Second.

His record for Rovers was 56 senior appearances and eleven goals.
