Rover of the Day: Paul Gregory

26 July 2020

Paul Gregory born July 26, 1961.

Paul made his Chesterfield debut in March 1981 in the most dramatic of circumstances. Called up as a last-minute injury replacement for the Second Leg of the Anglo-Scottish Cup Final, the Sheffield-born goalkeeper conceded only once against Notts County, and an extra-time equaliser allowed Chesterfield to win the trophy on aggregate.

After four seasons at Saltergate, he joined Rovers in the summer of 1984 to provide cover for Dennis Peacock and he made his debut in August in a League Cup tie agsinst York City, also playing in the following League game against Burnley. He was soon on the move again, joining Scunthorpe United in October 1984, where he spent two seasons as first choice keeper. He later played for Goole Town and Mexborough Town.
