Rover of the Day: Scott Maxfield

13 July 2020

Scott Maxfield born July 13, 1976

A versatile player who could operate in midfield or at full-back, Scott came through the youth ranks at Rovers, making his debut aged 17 in a FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town in December 1993.

Over the next two seasons he struggled to earn a regular place in the team, and he was transferred to Hull City in March 1996.

He re-joined Rovers at the start of the 1998-99 season following the club’s relegation into the Football Conference, featuring mostly in midfield but also left-back. In the latter role he appeared in both legs of the Conference’s League Cup Final as Rovers beat Farnborough Town 4-0 on aggregate.

After two seasons with Rovers he left to play for Gainsborough Trinity and then spent five seasons with Buxton, where he was briefly player-manager. His Rovers record was 96 senior appearances with two goals.
