Rover of the Day: Steve Hawes

Steve Hawes born July 17, 1978 (no players born July 18)

High Wycombe-born Steve was only 17 when he made his first-team debut for Sheffield United in September 1995 but was released by the Blades two years later after only five appearances.

The midfielder was snapped up by Rovers, then struggling at the foot of the Football League, and made his debut on 20th September 1997 in a 0-0 draw at home to Cambridge United.

During his time with Rovers he never featured in a winning side and he left the club in March 1998. The following season he signed for Hull City, where he made 26 appearances.

Subsequently he had two spells with Altrincham as well as playing for Worksop Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels. For Rovers he made eleven appearances, with no goals.
