Rover of the Day: John Quigley

John Quigley born June 28, 1935  (There were no former players/ managers born on June 27).

A FA Cup winner in 1959 with Nottingham Forest, Glaswegian John made over 250 appearances for the Reds and later played for Huddersfield Town and Bristol City.

He began his coaching career while still playing for Mansfield Town. In 1970 Rovers new manager, Maurice Setters, hired John as first team coach. When Setters was relieved of his duties in November 1974, John became caretaker-manager and held the role for three months, although the team only won one League game under his stewardship.

He remained at Rovers for a time under new boss Stan Anderson but in 1977 he was replaced by Cyril Knowles. Later he coached in the Middle East. John died in 2004, aged 69.
