John Billings born March 30 1944.
Locally born, John signed professional forms for Rovers in May 1961 but didn’t appear in the first team until September 1962 when he marked his debut with a goal in a 2-0 League Cup victory over Bradford City.
A forward, he proved a useful foil to fellow strikers Colin Booth and John Nibloe, but despite a respectable record of six goals in 19 appearances in his debut season, he made only four appearances in the following two seasons.
Subsequently he joined Kettering Town in the Southern League.
