The Sunday Market due to take place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday March 22 has been postponed as a precautionary measure due to the covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Public health advice is that any public event was too risky in the current climate, even with the additional hygiene measures put in place.
Head of stadium and operations Marie Hepburn said: “We had hoped a range of precautions would allow us to help people get vital goods and market traders get their items to people, but fresh guidance from the local NHS on Saturday meant we have no choice but to postpone Sunday’s market.
“In such a fast-moving environment the guidance is changing on a daily basis, but nothing is more important to us than the health and wellbeing of the community so we think it is the only sensible thing to do. We will advise as soon as we can whether we will be able to continue with future markets.”
