Rovers U23s secured their place in the Central League Cup Northern Regional Final winning a penalty shootout against Championship team West Bromwich Albion.

Alex Kiwomya’s late equaliser meant Rovers took the Baggies to penalties – an impressive shootout saw Rovers clinch their place in the final.

It was a hard-fought encounter at West Bromwich Albion Training Ground which entered the final 10 minutes at 0-0. Owen Windsor’s 82nd minute goal looked to have secured a win for the home side but Kiwomya’s strike just a few minutes later took the tie to penalties.

Both sides finishing the shootout with four converted spot kicks and the tie was taken to sudden death. Rovers went first and scored every one keeping the pressure on their opponents with the Premier League outfit missing the 10th penalty.

Rovers will play the winner of the other semi-final between Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town for a place in the Central League Cup National Final.
