Alan Brown born May 22, 1959.

A goalscoring striker, Alan started his career with Sunderland, helping them earn promotion to Division One in 1979-80.

Subsequently he moved on to Shrewsbury Town then in Division Two, scoring 10 times in 36 League games for them in 1982-83. In March 1984 Rovers signed him for £35,000 and he helped Billy Bremner’s side clinch promotion as runners-up from Division Four.

The following season he struck a hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Reading but soon after he suffered a serious knee injury that eventually ended his career. His Rovers record was seven goals in 17 appearances.

His son Chris was born in Doncaster and had two spells with Rovers, winning Championship medals in both 2003-04 and 2012-13.
