Francie Callan born May 24, 1935
Francie was born in Belfast but began his career at Dundalk, establishing himself as a prolific goal scorer with the League of Ireland club.
In November 1957 Rovers manager Peter Doherty signed him, possibly on the recommendation of another former Dundalk player, Paddy Gavin. He scored twice on his League debut, a 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town in December 1957, but could not help Rovers avoid relegation from Division Two after eight seasons.
He struggled to find the net the following season and was released with a record of seven goals in 32 senior appearances.
After a couple of seasons with non-League Ramsgate Athletic he returned to Dundalk in 1961 and was a regular there until 1967, helping them to two League of Ireland titles.
