John Buckley born May 10, 1962.

A speedy winger who produced many dangerous crosses, John began his career with Celtic before signing for Partick Thistle.

In July 1984 Rovers’ boss Billy Bremner signed him for £30,000 and he became a firm favourite with the Belle Vue crowd. In 1985-86 he missed only one League game as Rovers finished 11th in Division Three.

Bremner had by then moved to Leeds United and signed John in July 1986. He struggled to make an impact at Elland Road and in 1987-88 he had a loan spell with Rovers before signing for Rotherham United. After four seasons at Millmoor he had a spell with Scunthorpe United before returning to Rotherham where his professional career was ended by a serious head injury. In 2003 he was appointed Head Coach of the Doncaster Belles, a role he held for ten years.
