Rover of the Day: John Doolan

7 May 2020

John Doolan, born May 7 1974.

Merseysider John began his career at Everton but left to join Mansfield Town without making a senior appearance.

After four seasons there he joined Barnet and stayed with them following their relegation from the Football League in 2001.

Regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Football Conference, John joined Rovers in March 2003 for a small fee and helped them gain promotion back to the League via the play-offs. The combative but skilled midfielder was a key member of the side that won the Third Division Championship in 2003-04 and went on to make 92 senior appearances for Rovers, scoring three goals.

After spells with Blackpool, Rochdale and Southport he re-joined Everton as a coach in 2007 and is currently in charge of Under-23 recruitment.
